Becky Whinnerah

Associate Artist

My work goes out under the name BexGoneWest. My simple line drawings reflect everyday life but particularly issues of mental health and also what it is to be a parent carer to a wonderful but very complex bunch of kids. I hope my work resonates with people. I hope it makes them laugh, or feel seen, or relieved to know they're not alone. I draw them for me too. I need to laugh at how ridiculous life is on a daily basis. I draw on life.

Emotional State is a collaboration between two artists Lisa-Marie Gibbs and Emma Bradbury. Together we combine our love for plants, floristry, printmaking and textiles to create pop up shops across Reading. We met at Jelly and had our first Emotional State exhibition at Jelly in 2017. You can usually find us in the woods, foraging and making beautiful nonsense.

Heather McAteer

Associate Artist

Originally from Belfast, I am a visual artist who create works on paper which investigate themes of identity, memory and history. I work predominately in graphite to produce evocative drawings which harness the visual power of light and shadow. Aided by this limited palette, the images exist in a liminal space, hovering between the familiar and alien. My recent works depict beautiful, cruel landscapes suffused with a melancholic sense of loss and absence. They attempt to reconcile ideas of place and home, in terms of longing and belonging, and are a mediation on youth, memory and morality.

Helen Westhrop

Associate Artist

I am a self-taught printmaker a medium through which I am known as: Nelabligh. I then entered an exploration into textiles and recently graduated from the School of Crafts and Design as Master of Arts. I now return to printmaking and my local community. It would be remiss of me to leave behind my Coat Hanger Dolls who unwittingly dragged me from the doldrums of isolation and away from a joys of university life into a place of animation where I was able to transcend course requirements into another realm of artistic expression using modern technology. My Dolls ‘in print’, using age old techniques and unsophisticated tools, show the life and energy in my work.

Kate Powell

Jelly Workshop/Arts Educator

Textile obsessive, print player and every day stitcher.

Laura Skelton

Associate Artist

Laura studied a foundation diploma at Chelsea School of Art and a BA in painting at Winchester School of Art. Laura’s work straddles a line between abstraction and representation. There are ongoing themes that come back like characters or spirits. These are a means to an end to make a painting. They are not the controlling force, that is always about the paint. Drawing is very important to the work, combining both drawing line and brush gesture and a relationship to colour that is vivid and bold.

Valentina González

Over the years, Architecture and Art have both found their place within me, complementing and nourishing each other. I work mainly with acrylic paint and collage and tend to develop several paintings at the same time. I get bored very easily so I am always trying new materials or new ways to compose a painting. My process is all about trial and error: if I enjoy it, I keep it, if not, I jump on to the next thing. I start my paintings with no particular direction and I like to discover how they evolve and surprise me.
